Overview

Stellenbosch is home to the worlds most impressive vineyards serving delicious award-winning wines that will leave your palate satiated. The region is filled with architecturally pleasing dutch buildings with picturesque backdrops of mountains and hills. When in Cape Town visiting Stellenbosch is a must.

Stellenbosch is South Africa's second-oldest town, promising visitors an unforgettable experience as they explore the history, street culture, art, outdoor pursuits, and famous wine farms. The town was founded in 1679 by the governor of the Cape Colony, Simon van der Stel, named after himself. In just 10 years the city was thriving and attracted French colonists to settle and plant grapes in its fertile valleys, transforming the area into the center of the South African wine industry.

Why Go?

Stellenbosch is part of the Cape Winelands, which generally refers to areas such as Constantia, Franschhoek, Stellenbosch, and Paarl, known for their spectacular award-winning wines. Stelenbosch hosts a vast array of wine farms that offer its guests amazing wine-tasting experiences. These wine farms are cleverly perched on hills overlooking vast vineyards and mountainous landscapes. Popular destinations include Marianne wine estate, Delaire Graff estate, Peter Falke estate, Tokara, Vredenheim, and many more.

Visiting a wine farm is not the only thing to do in Stellenbosch, there are amazing outdoor activities such as horse riding, mountain biking, quad biking, hiking mountains, and many more. Their luxurious manor houses and world-class hotels make this the perfect region for romantic and honeymoon stays.

When to Go?

Stellenbosch is an all-year-round destination, however, we recommend visiting between September and April as this is the time many vintage wines are released, the weather is also great during these times with a warm and dry Mediterranean climate.

Where to Go?

With so many wine farms in the region, it can be a bit tricky deciding which wine farms to visit. We offer our guests the best wine farm tours choosing places that capture the full essence of the region. A famous destination is the Marianne wine estate, this wine estate offers its guests a unique experience coupling an amazing wine-tasting experience with dried meats, locally known as biltong. The estate is located on elevated grounds at Simonsberg mountain, providing you with stunning views over mountain ranges and vineyards whilst you taste delicate wines.

Another famous destination we recommend is the DeMorgenzon wine estate. This wine estate has an interesting take on how the science of music affects the quality of the grapes they produce. Due to this belief, they have speakers situated across their vineyards playing baroque music treating their grapes with love, which translates to the amazing wines they produce. A taste of these superb wines will leave you wanting more.
